Bobcats fall short in 14-13 loss to Cougars

BG’s two-point conversion attempt failed, and Southview held on to win, 14-13, Friday in a Northern Lakes League game.

Southview improves to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference while BG falls to 2-6 and 1-4.

Brandt opened the scoring on a one yard run with 6:56 remaining in the first half, and Sydney Maas added the conversion kick, putting the Bobcats up, 7-0.

Southview came back on a two-yard run by Isaac Sexton with 2:48 left in the half, and Logan Howe’s conversion kick tied the game at 7-7 heading into intermission.

Four minutes and three seconds after the second half kickoff, Southview quarterback Avery Offenburg threw a 22-yard TD pass to Emite Lamb, and Howe’s conversion kick proved to be the winning point.

BG quarterback Kadin Shank completed 4-of-6 passes for 36 yards, including a 19-yard pass to Reece Rath.

Brandt also played quarterback, completing 4-of-5 passes for 39 yards, including one to Nate Kress for 24 yards.

Ashton Studer caught four passes for 16 yards and Brandt caught two passes from Shank for 16 yards.

Jackson Shafer led BG’s rushing attack with 42 yards on 14 carries, Rath had 26 yards on eight carries, Studer had 18 yards on four carries, and Brandt had 10 yards on 11 carries.

BG had 11 first downs and 174 yards of total offense.
