BG may want to keep city office building

To the Editor:
Just something to consider as BG figures out its new Master Plan.
As city planners and Council members consider possible location and construction of a new City Building,
could they keep in mind that, for a city/town with a population of about 15,000 [35,000 if you include
university students], the present building at 304 North Church Street might possibly suffice?
The present building seems to be structurally sound and to have ample space for the city’s offices. There
is certainly enough parking space. Although I’ve heard of aging structures, faulty plumbing, not enough
space, etc., maybe, before building something new, getting a second opinion about such claims would be a
good idea.
If the present building truly must be abandoned, and a new location found, could any of the abandoned,
yet structurally-sound buildings around town be considered?
Before increasing residents’ taxes for a new building?
