1,000 voices to sing Ode To Joy Sunday

TOLEDO – The Toledo Symphony Orchestra will mark its 70th anniversary with Ode To Joy: A Community’s
Celebration of Music Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Huntington Center, 500 Jefferson Ave.
The orchestra, conducted by Stefan Sanderling, will perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, culminating in
the final movement, the Ode To Joy, sung by soloists and a chorus over 1,000 voices.
The singers are drawn from school and community choirs from the region. The Masterworks Chorale,
conducted by Tom Cloeter, of the Bowling Green State University faculty, will serve as the lead chorus.
Choruses from BGSU, Elmwood and Otsego are also participating.
The soloists include two Wood County natives, tenor Shawn Mathey, of Bowling Green, and mezzo-soprano
Katherine Calcamuggio, who grew up in Rossford and studied at BGSU. BGSU professor Sean Cooper and
soprano Jennifer Cooper will also be soloists.
