ADRIAN – Samuel Ellsworth Rutter, age 87 of Adrian, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 31, 2014 at
his home.
He was born September 9, 1926, in Wood County, Ohio, the oldest child of Earl and Eunice (Adams) Rutter.

After graduating from Bowling Green High School, he attended Bowling Green State University.
Sam worked for A & P Supermarkets for almost 40 years. He then enjoyed managing the Shell
convenience store in Adrian from which he retired with over 15 years of service.
Sam was a 50-plus year member of the Crystal Chapter No. 157, Royal Arch Masons. He was a former member
of the First United Methodist Church.
Sam treasured his family, especially his grandchildren, who will fondly remember playing games of Yahtzee
and dominoes with Grandpa.
He is survived by his children: Marianne (William) Andresen of Ironwood, MI; Suzanne Meridieth of
Deerfield Beach, FL; Annette (Robert) Yeiter of Grand Rapids, MI; and Jonathan (Krystal) Rutter of
Dundee, MI; grandchildren: David (Kierstin) Andresen, Carolyn (Andy) Warren, Daniel (Jenna) and Alison
Meridieth, Philip (Elizabeth), Elizabeth, and Jacquelynn Yeiter, Paris, Catherine and Stephen Rutter;
great-grandchildren: Kendal and Avery Ellsworth Yeiter, Harley and Jacob Bond and Brooks Meridieth; his
siblings: John (Beverly) Rutter of Bowling Green, OH; Emma Mae Mantel of Midland, MI; Ned (Meg) Rutter
of South Carolina; and his closest friend, Alan Rudd of Adrian.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a dear friend and co-worker, Patti Rudd.
Visitation will take place at Wagley Funeral Home on Monday, August 4, 2014 beginning at 11 a.m. followed
by a funeral service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Christopher Brundage officiating.
Burial will be at Wood County Memory Gardens in Bowling Green, OH.
