‘Little Shop of Horrors’ opens tonight

ROSSFORD — The Rossford High School Drama Department production of “Little Shop of Horrors” opens tonight
at Perrysburg Junior High School Auditorium.
Rossford has a long history with the Off-Broadway musical. Rossford High School hosted the national
amateur premiere of the musical in October 1986 under the auspices of then director, the late Harry
Wilcox. The popular production was later revived in 1999 (starring TV/film actor Jonathan Bennett of
“Mean Girls” fame), and again in 2007.
This week, under the direction of Julie Zatko and Ryan Mahaffey, Rossford’s favorite bloodthirsty plant
will be ready to devour the crowds.
Originally based on a 1960 sci fi “B-movie” directed by Roger Corman and starring a then unknown Jack
Nicholson, the Off-Broadway stage adaptation debuted in 1982 and went on to become a popular 1986 film.
The story gently mocks all the elements of a low budget 1950s sci-fi horror film set to a doo-wop score
by acclaimed songwriting team Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (“Disney’s The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and
the Beast” and “Aladdin”).
Alumni Night is set for Saturday at the 7:30 p.m. performance. All previous casts are encouraged to come
together as the Drama Department pays tribute to this beloved production.
“Little Shop of Horrors” alumni can book a discounted overnight stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites Toledo
Perrysburg by calling 419- 662-8800.

School Auditorium, 550 E. South Boundary St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students and senior
citizens.
