Prep roundup: Veryser spins one-hitter, Elmwood wins 5-1

Elmwood 5, Lakota 1
BLOOMDALE — Elmwood’s Noah Veryser had his best stuff on Thursday in shutting down Lakota for a 5-1 win.

Veryser allowed just one hit and struck out nine batters to improve to 2-0. The Royals improved to 3-1.

Dylan Gerkens paced Elmwood’s offense with a single and double. Tyler St. Clair and Konner Logston each
had a pair of singles.
SOFTBALL
Elmwood 13, Old Fort 9
OLD FORT — Five Elmwood players combined for six doubles on Thursday as the Royals racked up four runs in
the ninth inning to beat Old Fort.
Jordan Babcock doubled twice to lead Elmwood, while Jill Hannah, Makenna Benschoter, Haley Zimmerman and
Lainey Bingham each doubled. Benchoter and Hannah had a game-high three hits apiece.
Madison Lyons tossed four innings of relief, allowing one run to earn the win for the Royals.
Old Fort outhit Elmwood 17-16 in the loss.
Clyde 11, Rossford 1
CLYDE — Rossford held a small lead after the first inning, but not much went right for the Bulldogs from
then on in falling 11-1 to Clyde on Thursday.
Emilia Christoff had the only hit of the game for Rossford (3-1), which had outscored its opponents 45-4
over the past two games.
Hunter Schwochow held the Bulldogs in the check striking out eight across five innings for the win.

BOYS TENNIS
Sylvania Northview 5, Bowling Green 0
SYLVANIA — Mitchell Drumm and Luke Konecny combined to win Bowling Green’s lone set of the day as the
Bobcats were swept 5-0 by Sylvania Northview on Thursday.
Drumm, a captain, and Konecny won the second of three sets, 6-4, in the No. 1 doubles bout. The duo
dropped the opening set 6-3 and the third set 6-1.
Erik Schempf, Drumm’s co-captain, was swept 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Dom Meszaros and James Eddington
both lost 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Hayden McCracken and Jack Devine fell in No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-0.
