Thanks to the unsung heroes

To the Editor:
Too often we hear what our community is lacking. Comments, such as, “You know what this town really
needs?” Yadayadayada. … Instead, why don’t we ask ourselves what is really working. What makes Bowling
Green special?
On behalf of my family, we would like to say “thank you” for the exceptional care and support that
Bowling Green Manor senior living gave to our mom, Marilyn Heinbaugh. They are unsung heroes. I want
everyone to know that their efforts and care do not go unnoticed by our family, nor that of our
community.
We could no longer care for mom ourselves, and it was difficult to leave her in a “home,” but we quickly
saw she was well cared for and treated with compassion and genuine concern. We were impressed with the
number of long-term employees, which is generally a sign that management is doing something right. One
employee makes the daily commute from Upper Sandusky.
The staff treated mom respectfully, kindly and always with a smile. They took the time to joke with her,
which made her feel special and like her old self.
The day my mom passed, I was greeted by several staff members with a warm and meaningful hug. The hugs
weren’t fake. These people love what they do and it shows. We will be forever grateful knowing mom was
surrounded by such wonderful caregivers in the end.
We always thought we were the only ones who could take proper care of our mom. We were wrong.
Thank you, Bowling Green Manor.
