Everyone should have access to food

To the Editor:
We as a country need to do more to help the people of our citizens who are struggling to survive due to
the inability to provide enough food for themselves and their families.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “In 2017, an estimated 1 in 8 Americans were food insecure, equating
to 40 million Americans including more than 12 million children.”
This is a large percentage of our nation that is incapable of having access to food that is necessary to
survive.
I’m calling on Congressman Bob Latta to vote for House Bills that are proponents of expanding the SNAP
benefits program so that more people have the ability to have access to enough healthy food for
themselves and their children.
Also, it’s important to make sure that the food people have access to is healthy. Unfortunately, healthy
and natural food tends to be more costly. This is another reason that this program needs expanded
because when these people who are struggling have the opportunity to eat healthier, they’ll be less
likely to get sick which is even more costly for them.
Food is a basic necessity that everyone should have access to, no matter what their financial situation
is. If anymore legislation passes that limits this program’s funding, it can have serious consequences
for not only people of America, but individuals in this city of Bowling Green whom also have serious
problems regarding poverty.
