AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The police chief of a small northeast Ohio community outside of Akron who’s become a
social media celebrity because of his posts on the department’s Facebook page has been suspended without
pay for two weeks.
The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/1yfTru7 ) reports that Brimfield Township police Chief David
Oliver is not allowed to say why he was suspended starting Tuesday or what departmental policy he might
have violated that led to the suspension.
An attorney for the township would not divulge any details and says an outside lawyer was hired to
investigate.
Oliver has been police chief for 20 years. The department’s Facebook page features Oliver’s frequent and
quirky posts about whatever’s on his mind, and has more than 177,000 "likes."
