Diving back as part of BGSU women’s swimming program (9-11-13)

Diving is being reinstated to the Bowling Green State University swimming program.A coach will be
hired this season with divers becoming part of the team for the 214-15 season.“Headcoach Petra Martin has
developed a championship caliber program anddeserves the resources necessary for reaching our goal of
winning a MAC(Mid-American Conference) championship,” said Chris Kingston, theathletics director at BGSU.
“Petra is a results-oriented leader whodemands excellence in the classroom as well as the pool. The
combinationof the team’s cumulative GPA of 3.42 and the competitive improvementsover the past few seasons
has not gone unnoticed.‘‘We are pleased tohave divers join the talented young ladies who currently swim
forFalcon athletics and look forward to their future achievements at boththe MAC and NCAA
championships.”Since last fielding a team in 2009,the Falcons have been at a competitive disadvantage by not
having theopportunity to score points in diving.“Our team has been improvingrapidly and having a strong
diving program is crucial for our success inthe MAC and on a national level,” Martin said. “We have been the
onlyschool in the conference without a diving program, and we can’t wait tosee what we can do with this
fantastic addition.‘‘I am thrilled tostart the process of incorporating the diving portion of our
