Many foundation stones of Christianity have their origins in Judaism, including the seven day
week with one day kept for worship, daily prayer at set times, and the use of psalms and other biblical
poetry in daily worship. Like their Jewish ancestors, early Christian opened and closed the day with
devotional prayer, drawing on scripture as the primary source of texts. In the first half of the 20th
century, scholars prepared for a renewal of morning and evening prayer.Sung by the Bowling Green State
University Harmonia Sacra, a special "Lenten Vespers: From Darkness to Light" service will
provide an opportunity for meaningful reflection on this Lenten season through scripture, singing, and
choral benediction. The public is invited to join in this celebration next Friday at 6 p.m. in the
sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green. Organizers say it will be a "meaningful
service."The church is located at 126 S. Church St.
