Falcon volleyball players honoredCLEVELAND — Bowling Green’s volleyball team had four players
named to the All-Mid-American Conference academic team announced Friday.Laura Avila, Lindsey
Butterfield, Paige Penrod and Kaitlyn Skinner were BG’s first-team picks.Avila has a 4.0 grade-point
average in health science. Butterfield has a 3.85 gpa in biology. Pernod has a 3.27 gpa in pre-early
childhook education. Skinner has a 3.77 gpa in biology.Five other Falcons received honorable mention,
including BGHS graduate Ashley Dunn. The others were Cassie Berning, Kari Galen and Leah Shaw and Libby
Dachenhaus.BGSU tennis competes at IUBLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Bowling Green State University tennis team
began the spring season on Friday competing at the IU Winter Invitational. The three-day, four-team
event, hosted by Indiana University, is being held at the IU Tennis Center.Senior Katie Grubb picked up
BG’s lone win, downing the Hoosiers’ Ariel Beckerman in a seventh-flight match. Grubb lost only three
total games in her 6-1, 6-2 win.Each of the seven other Falcons, however, lost to an IU player in
singles action. Freshman Katie Brozovich battled the Hoosiers’ Carolyn Chupa to a third-set tiebreaker,
but the IU sophomore pulled out a 10-6 victory in the ‘breaker.While players are competing in several
rounds of non-bracketed singles play this weekend, doubles teams are competing in a standard bracket.
All four BG teams fell on Friday, including two against IU foes.Reimold signs with OriolesBALTIMORE —
The Baltimore Orioles have avoided arbitration with former Bowling Green Falcon Nolan Reimold, agreeing
Friday to a one-year deal with the outfielder.Reimold, 29, played in just 16 games last year after a
herniated disk in his neck put him on the disabled list from May 1 through the end of the season. In his
only month of action, he hit .313 (21-for-67) and still managed five home runs and 10 RBI.The left
fielder also played well in limited action in 2011, connecting for 13 home runs, 10 doubles and three
triples while driving in 45 runs over 87 games. In his four Major League seasons, all with the Orioles,
