Organizations: Zonta Club of Bowling Green (01-11-13)

Members of the Zonta Club met in January at the BG Country Club for their monthly meeting and
luncheon. Zonta Club members supported several holiday programs as a part of their annual community service;
Cocoon Shelter, Food Pantry, Heifer Organization, WC Health Department Mitten and Hats all benefited with
gift cards, cash and supplies for their various programs and causes.Committees discussed several events
including the upcoming Chili and Soup Cook-off on Feb. 16, Martha’s Kitchen work being scheduled in March
and May, and preparing birthing kits for third world countries on March 12. There were a number of other
community events announced to the membership that might be of interest to them. A finance committee will
meet to work on budgeting and money-management needs.Chris Diefenthaler, director of the Wood County office
of the Red Cross, presented a program on disaster preparation and efforts happening locally. She noted that
blood drives are always important to support, but also noted how family and individual planning can save
lives in the event of a disaster.The next meeting will be held Feb. 5 at noon at the SIOP office at 440 E.
Poe Road, Bowling Green.Zonta is an organization of professional and business women aimed at furthering
women’s education, leadership and youth development.
