LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) — An Ohio man has been arrested on
suspicion of traveling to California and sexually assaulting a
15-year-old girl he met on Facebook.
The Los Angeles County
Sheriff’s department said 43-year-old Michael Scheetz of Westerville,
Ohio, was charged with five felonies Wednesday in connection to the
case.
The girl was reported missing Sunday, and detectives were
able to determine that she’d run away from home to meet a man she met on
Facebook about six months ago.
On Monday, detectives were able to
locate and detain Scheetz. Authorities said he initially denied knowing
where the girl was but he eventually he led investigators to a field in
Lancaster, where the victim was found lying on the ground.
The girl was taken to a hospital and is in good condition.
