PERRYSBURG – Carrie Sowden, archaeological director of the Peachman Lake Erie
Shipwreck Center- Great Lakes Historical Society, will present Archaeology of
the War of 1812 on the Great Lakes on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fort Meigs
visitor center.
Sowden will discuss the search for the battle site and how it was discovered. She
will also highlight several other War of 1812 shipwrecks that have been
discovered and studied in other Great Lakes.
Sowden is currently the Archaeological Director for the Peachman Lake Erie Shipwreck
Research Center for the Great Lakes Historical Society. Her areas of specialty
are historical archaeology and waterlogged artifact conservation. During her
career as a nautical archaeologist, she has worked on shipwreck projects in
Maine, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, Portugal, the Azores, Turkey, and Ohio
including the search for the Battle of Lake Erie and the excavation of the 1850
side-wheel steamer Anthony Wayne.

Owens Community College’s Student Government and the Office of Student Activities is
inviting students and the community to join in celebrating Constitution Day
Monday and Tuesday by bringing awareness to the importance of voting.
Owens student representatives will make voter registration forms available to
individuals from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday in the Student Health and Activities
Center and the College Hall Atrium on the Perrysburg Township campus.
Additionally, voter registration forms will be available for visitors from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Education Center Atrium on the Findlay campus.
In addition to voter registration, attendees will have the opportunity to receive a
free U.S. Constitution pocket booklet titled "U.S. Constitution and
Fascinating Facts About It.".
The Wood County Historical Center and Museum, in partnership with the Department of
German, Russian and East Asian Languages at BGSU, will present its annual
German-American program on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Wood County Historical Center
and Museum, 13660 County Home Road, Bowling Green.
Local author Michael McMaster will present his book, Henry County in the Great War:
German-Americans, Patriots, and Loyalty. This book details the loyalty trials
imposed on the German-Americans during World War One in Henry County.
The program is free and open to the public.
