PEMBERVILLE – Former farmers and city residents alike enjoyed a special tour last
Thursday.
Organized by Jim Opelt through Star Tours of Ohio, a group of 56 area residents spent
the day on a "backyard tour" of the Frobose Farm on Alexander Road and
various businesses in Pemberville.
"It’s really different to see your meal on the hoof," said Donna Lambert of
Tontogany. "It’s a lot different than just seeing a package of meat at the
store."
Both she and Janice Kaiser, also of Tontogany, noted how they frequently take these
tours.
"We love them. You just get on the bus and it’s all taken care of," Lambert
said.
Kaiser noted that her husband, Chet Brown, was a farmer and she was amazed at how
much he enjoyed seeing the farm.
Evelyn Gerwin, who lives between Pemberville and Bradner, shared that she also had a
farm background.
"They have very nice cattle. It’s obvious they take good care of the cattle.
They are good quality," Gerwin said.
Ward Damschroder, a self-described "old farm boy" from Perrysburg, said the
Frobose family raised cattle "just like when I was a boy."
When asked what things have changed over the years, Damschroder said, "Almost
everything."
He said he really enjoyed seeing the old slings and the lofts for hay in the barn.

Clarann Boczan of Rossford found the farm tour very enjoyable. She was impressed with
the 64 head of cattle and "of course the odor to go with it."
She also said she learned lots of "interesting facts."
Boczan like the fact that there are now fifth-generation members of the Frobose
family involved.
After the tour spent time at the farm, they returned to the village, where the tour
visitors spent time in an antique shop, a tearoom, Beeker’s General Store and
the Frobose Meat Market, to see those packages of meat and other parts of the
operation.
Many of the merchants offered discounts to the tour participants.
Every tour member who spoke to the Sentinel had nothing but positive comments for
both the farm and the businesses visited in the village.
Lambert summed up the visit, "It’s really nice to visit the little places that
are really close but you normally don’t see."
