CINCINNATI (AP) — Police in Cincinnati are getting special
training to make them more aware of cultural differences ahead of an
international competition bringing choirs from dozens of countries to
the city this summer.
The World Choir Games are held every two
years. Nearly 400 choirs from 49 countries have registered for the July
event. It’s expected to draw nearly 15,000 participants and tens of
thousands more spectators.
A four-hour course in "sensitivity
training" is aimed at helping Cincinnati police balance their work with
respect for language and cultural differences they may encounter during
the event.
A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office tells The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://bit.ly/H8fniK ) the topics covered in the
training include potential communication
problems and behaviors and traditions that officers might not typically
see in the city.
