A barrage of 3-pointers lifted Bowling Green past Morehead State, 73-60 in a BracketBusters contest
Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons took advantage of playing at home in the Stroh Center as Scott Thomas was 8-of-15 on threes,
Dee Brown went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and Jordan Crawford was 3-of-4 on threes, against the Eagles’
zone defense. PHOTO

“Morehead did a good job of really closing down the paint and taking away our inside game as well as
trying to take away our dribble penetration,” BG head coach Louis Orr said. “We did a good job of
swinging the ball, reversing the ball and making the extra pass.
“We got wide open shots, but you still have to make them.”
Thomas got the Falcons rolling, hitting three straight triples in a span of 2:10 in the first half.
“When you make a couple, the hoop starts getting bigger,” Thomas said. “Today, I had good rhythm and the
guys found me … All our guards were able to find the open shooters.”
BG started slowly with turnovers on its first three possessions, but Thomas’ threes sparked the team.
“We were in a slump in the beginning, like the first couple minutes of the game, and definitely Scott got
us going with three straight threes,” Brown said. “It just fired the rest of the team up and everyone
else just starting knocking down open shots … Our coaches just told us to keep shooting it.
“It was just a great night,” Brown added. “It was actually the first time since I have been here that we
shot the ball so well from three and I just hope we can keep that going.”
The Falcons went 10-of-16 on threes in the first half to gain a 43-29 lead at the break. Thomas was
6-of-10 in the first half from beyond the arc. His previous high for a game was four successful threes.

“They were real focused on our bigs and Jordon Crawford was really able to get us going, getting into the
lane and finding opening guys,” Thomas said. “I was able to get us started and everybody followed
through. Dee hit a lot of big threes tonight and so did Jordon … Everybody seemed to get in a rhythm
knocking threes down.”
BG was 4-of-10 on threes in the second half, and 9-of-14 2-pointers to keep Morehead State at bay.
The Falcons built a 62-41 lead on a Brown triple with 8:13 left in the game and went on to the 13-point
victory.
The torrid shooting made up for deficiencies by the Falcons on defense and with turnovers.
BG had 17 turnovers which the Eagles turned into 18 points.
“We were careless with the ball,” Orr said. “You look at the field-goal defense for the first half and
they shot 52 percent. For us, that’s too high.”
Morehead State ended up shooting 47.9 percent from the field for the game.
Thomas finished with a career-high 28 points, Brown scored 19 points, and Crawford just missed a
double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
“It was great to see us shoot the ball the way we did because we needed it,” Orr said. “We did a good job
of sharing the ball.”
BG improved to 14-12 with the victory, playing well after a disappointing 72-59 loss at Ohio last
Wednesday. The Falcons are back in Mid-American Conference play starting Wednesday at conference-leader
Akron.
“It was just a good win all around,” Brown said. “This was a game for us to build our team chemistry and
just play well and take that along to the next game which is going to be Akron.”
NOTES: With its 14 wins Bowling Green has matched its win total in each of the last two years … The
Falcons have at least five games remaining … Brown has scored 991 career points for the Falcons and he
is on track to become the 39th player in school history to reach 1,000 points in a career … Brown has
made 16 of his last 29 3-pointers … Thomas’ eight 3-pointers were just one away from the school-record
of nine set by Jay Larranaga against Akron on Feb. 8, 1997 … BG had assists on 21 of its 28 field
goals … With his 12 assists, Crawford moved into eighht place in BG’s all-time career list … Cam
Black blocked three shots for the Falcons … Morehead State (15-14) came into the game allowing only
61.9 ppg … BG is 6-4 all-time in the BracketBusters series.
