Montessori students meet up with former teammates at Columbus chess tourney

Four Montessori students joined forces with fellow members of the Great Lakes Chess Association on Jan.
14 when they traveled to Columbus to compete at the 2012 Brain Freeze Chess Tournament.
The tournament allowed "club play", which means players from different schools could come
together to form a single team. Normally teams are limited to a player’s school.
Playing for GLCA Elementary K-6 Team were Montessori students Jeremy Mahoney and Jared Bechstein. Also
playing on the GLCA team was former Montessori student Thomas Chang who now lives in Pittsburgh. The
team of Bechstein, Mahoney and Chang combined their efforts to win second place in a tough section.
In the Unrated K-3 Section Yeowoon and Jaewoon Jung were joined by a former teammate, Anne Chang, and
took fourth place. Yeowoon led her team with 3 out of 5 points, while brother Jaewoon scored 2.5 points.

Thomas Chang and his sister Anne moved with their parents from Bowling Green in October to Pennsylvania
when their father got a new job.
