To the Editor: BGHS thanks fans for support of V Foundation

0

I would like to thank the Bowling Green community for its support of the OHSAA Foundation basketball game
between Bowling Green HS and Fairview HS on November 18. To be able to bring former BGHS graduate and
basketball player Pete Maienknecht and his team to help raise funds for the V Foundation for Cancer
Research was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to give back to our community.
The V Foundation is near and dear to the Maienknecht family as Pete’s father Gil was a strong supporter
sponsoring golf outing in the Bowling Green area on an annual basis to raise funds for cancer research.
Unfortunately Gil lost his battle to prostrate cancer this past spring. The turnout of family, friends,
former teammates, co-workers, students, staff, teachers, coaches and the community at large was
tremendous.
Than you to the Sentinel for the lead up story in the paper that helped the turnout and the picture in
the paper. Thank you to all of the volunteers who gave of their time. Through all of this we were able
to raise over $1,500 for cancer research. Growing up in Bowling Green I have always known that this is a
giving community and is one of the reasons that I returned to raise my family when given the opportunity
to do so. This night is another example of that giving spirit.
