PERRYSBURG – Ray Pohlman, athletic director for Perrysburg High School, has announced that Perrysburg
will participate in the Spielman Gridiron Classic IV against Napoleon High School on Friday at
Steinecker Stadium. The athletic department and the athletic boosters are working with the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes and the Spielman Classic to promote breast cancer awareness.
The primary goal of the Spielman Gridiron Classic is to promote former Ohio State and NFL Detroit Lion
linebacker Chris Spielman’s philosophy of "Faith, Family and Football" while raising funds for
the Stefanie Spielman fund at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
The goal is to reach $100,000 for breast cancer research in Ohio during the fall football season. In
addition, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be sending 500 students to FCA camps during the
summer of 2012.
According to Pohlman, this is a great opportunity to teach student athletes that football is more than a
game and that it can be a platform to assist their communities and significantly help people who are
battling cancer.
Several activities are planned for the evening: A pre-game social will be held in the north end zone of
Steinecker Stadium. A football autographed by Spielman will be raffled at the game. Pink T-shirts will
be on sale in the athletic office during the week of the game, as well as at the game, for $10.
Donations will be accepted at the gate. All proceeds go toward breast cancer research. Fans are being
asked to wear pink to support this cause.
Spielman will visit the school that raises the most money, and will host a school assembly to inspire
students to get involved in their local community and to award a scholarship in honor of his late wife.

All breast cancer survivors will be honored at halftime of the game. Contact the athletic office at (419)
874-3181 ext. 25011 in order to be placed on the guest list.
Following the game, a representative from the Spielman Gridiron Classic will award the
"Champions" trophy to the winning team, as well as "Most Valuable Player" and
"Runner-Up" trophies.
