Pemberville’s John Konesky III drove three winners and had one second to lead the way at the Wood County
Fair’s harness racing program Wednesday.
All told, county-owned horses won five of the 11 races contested.
Konesky won the 2-year-old colt trot with Jess Perfect. Jess Perfect made a move down the stretch to get
past HappyGoSteve to win in 2:12.3.
In the 2-year-old filly trot, Konesky won in 2:13.2 with Lofty Jessica, making a move past the
three-quarters to get to the front.
Konesky then won the final race of the night, a conditioned trot for winners of at least $3,000 in 2011,
with This Sands Hot, an 8-year-old gelding, in 2:04.2 Distant Memories cut some wicked fractions,
getting to the first quarter in :28.4 and to the half in :59.4. This Sands Hot then took the lead at the
three-quarters.
Konesky owns This Sands Hot out-right and Jess Perfect and Lofty Jessica with his son, Patrick of Bowling
Green.
Benjamin Ott of Lucky was the owner two winners, both driven by Tony Martz.
Martz and Ott won with Friskie D in the 2-year-old filly pace in 2:08.3, with a move past the
three-quarters, and with Our Little Filly, in 2:03.3 in the 3-year-old filly pace. Our Little Filly hold
on to win at the wire with three horses across the track.
Mark Headworth also won twice, with Nanner in the 3-year-old cot trot in 2:09.3 and Arizona Dawn in the
3-year-old pace in 2:03.4. Arizona Dawn made a big move at the head of the stretch on the way to the
win.
The fastest mile of the night was a 2:01.4 effort by T Red, driven by Larry Stone, in a conditioned pace
for winners of at least $4,000 in 2011. T Red made a big move just past the half to get to the lead,
pacing the third quarter in :28.3 and coming home 30.2 for a final half of :59 for the 6-year-old
gelding.
