The 117th annual convention of the Lakeside Federation of Women’s Clubs will be held next Wednesday at
Green Gables, the Lakeside Women’s Club home.
The federation includes 20 clubs from northwest Ohio, including two in Wood County.
Women from this area have been meeting annually since 1894 to hear speakers of interest and to exchange
information.
The 2011 convention theme, "Let there be Peace on Earth," was chosen by President Margaret Mann
from Lakeside.
Vice President Gussie Oberhouse, a member of the Pemberville Mental Culture Club, serves as program
chairperson.
Federation treasurer is Mary Etta Hemmerly of the Woman’s Club of Bowling Green.
Secretary is Ann Whithaus of the Findlay Woman’s National Farm and Garden Club.
Programs planned for this year’s convention include "Reprogramming to Read" presented by Dr.
Michael Frech, a professor at Lourdes College. His wife Robin will assist with the presentation.
U.S. Marine Corps pilot Lt. Sarah Deal will give a presentation about her experiences flying while
serving in the Marines.
Music for the luncheon, served at the historic Lakeside Hotel, will be offered by The Elders, a jazz
group from the Port Clinton-Lakeside area.
A member from each of the individual clubs, chosen by club members for their work, leadership and
dedication to their club and community, will be honored at the convention.
Interested community members are invited to attend. Registration is $5, the Lakeside gate fee is $9.25
and the cost of the luncheon is $12.
For information or registration call Marilyn Pahl, registration chairperson, at (419) 352-1672 in Bowling
Green.
