PERRYSBURG – Women from around Wood County celebrated their lives by engaging in new adventures at the
Wood County Committee on Aging’s sixth annual Women’s Retreat entitled "Eat, Play and Live for
Today." The event was held last Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg.

Participants experienced the skills and training that it takes to learn traditional Middle Eastern belly
dancing. Garbed in sarongs the women engaged in an energetic non-conventional fitness experience to
customary music.
Ana Brown, the SMART Program coordinator at Bowling Green State University, provided a thorough training
on "True Colors." True Colors is a model of personality identification that is easy to
understand, remember, apply to life situations and will enable the fostering of healthy relationships
for the participants who were trained through this program. Afterward, the women retreated to the dining
area for a lunch sponsored by Kingston Residence of Perrysburg.
The event wrapped up with Ed Boas from Sandusky presenting a program entitled, "Health
Rhythms." This group drumming approach enabled attendees to experience the health benefits of a
drumming circle. Participants created their own rhythms and worked together to experience stress
reduction, self expression, the physical benefits of drumming, camaraderie support and music making in a
relaxed group setting. This part of the program was sponsored by The Manor of Perrysburg.
Barbara Miller 71 of Perrysburg left the event feeling uplifted and looking forward to next year’s event.

"It was awesome. I did two things that day I thought I would never do – belly dancing and
drumming," she said. "The best aspect of my retirement years has been getting involved in the
Wood County Senior Centers events."
