County athletes win six district track titles

County athletes won six championships at the district track and field meets Saturday.
In Division I, Perrysburg’s Courtney Clody and Andrea Alt were district champions in the 1,600 and 3,200,
respectively.
In Division III, North Baltimore Amanda Hotaling, a junior, won the pole vault clearing 12-4. She won the
state championship as a freshman.
Northwood’s Kayla Kurth won the 100 (12.87) and teammate Jessica Grindle won the 300 hurdles (47.14).
Elmwood’s 1,600 relay team of Austin Stewart, Billy Corner, Aaron Arnold and Kyle Smithey won in 3:33.98.

The top four individual and regional finishers advance to the regional meet.
DIVISION I
At Toledo St. Francis, Perrysburg’s girls had a strong meet, finishing second in the team standings with
100 points. Toledo Notre Dame won the 12-team meet with 134 points.
Clody won the 1,600 in 5:19.37. Alt was first in 11:28.0 in the 3,200.
Perrysburg’s also advanced: Emily Wyrick, second in the 400 (58.70); Taylor Monheim, third in the 3,200
(11:44.02); Lucy Walton, third in the long jump (16-11?2); Chelsea Williams, third in the 200 (26.79);
and Melissa Jones, third in the 300 hurdles (48.22) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.16);
On Thursday, Alt, Monheim, Clody and Wyrick won the 3,200 relay in a district meet record time of
9:25.42.
In the boys meet, Perrysburg’s Bryant Byrd was fourth in the 1,600 (4:28.21) to advance to the regional.
Perrysburg was 13th with 11 points in the team standings.
The regional meet is at Amherst Steele on Wednesday and Friday this week. The top four finishers in each
event at the regional advance to the state meet.
DIVISION III
At Eastwood, Elmwood’s boys finished third in the team standings with 921?2 points as Smithey advanced in
four events. Lakota was ninth with 29 points and Northwood finished tied for 12th with nine points.
Toledo Christian won the 13-team meet with 120 points.
In addition to his relay win, Smithey was second in both the 110 hurdles (15.55) and the 300 hurdles
(40.65). He had been third in the long jump on Thursday.
Also advancing for Elmwood were: Josh Boes, second in the 800 (2:05.63); Stewart, third in the 400
(54.39); Caleb Reynolds, tied for third in the high jump (5-8) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.31);
and the 800 relay team of Stewart, Reynolds, Arnold and Trey Wilhelm, fourth (1:37.27).
Advancing for Lakota were: Kyle Babcock, fourth in the 1,600 (4:45.87); and Seth Benfer, fourth in the
400 (54.42).
Northwood’s Zach Bermejo was third in the 110 hurdles (15.73) to advance.
In the 15-team girls meet, Elmwood finished sixth with 41 points, Northwood was eighth with 36 points and
Lakota was 10th with 28 points. Toledo Christian won the meet with 96 points.
Kurth, Grindle and Nikki Davenport and Marissa Ramirez ran on the 800 relay team which finished second
(1:47.29).
Elmwood’s Reagan Briggs was second in the pole vault and fourth in the long jump (15-73?4) and teammate
Kori Reiser was third in the shot put (36-8).
Lakota’s Kylie Podach was third in the pole vault (9-0) and teammate Cariss Reese was fourth in the pole
vault (9-0).
At Liberty-Benton, Hotaling advanced to the regional in three events.
She was third in the 100 (13.17) and ran with Jessica Casey, Chloe Hamlin and Brittany Lee to finish
fourth in the 800 relay (1:53.01).
Hotaling was also seventh in the 300 hurdles (51.18).
Lee also advanced in the 200, finishing second (27.68).
As a team NB’s girls finished seventh with 341?2 points.
The regional meet is at Tiffin Columbian on Wednesday and Friday with the top four finishers in each
event going to the state.
