BG council OKs F-liquor permit

Bowling Green City Council Monday night unanimously approved an F-liquor permit for a July 30 event being
planned by AMVETS Post 711.
Council action was required because the city’s zoning code does not allow the municipal administrator to
approve such a permit. The appeal process is through city council, Assistant Municipal Administrator
Lori Tretter said. "The administration does not oppose the event, we just don’t have the authority
to grant the permit."
She noted that council has traditionally only been involved when a new group seeks a permit or an
existing event such as the Black Swamp Arts Festival wants to make changes regarding the foot print of
the area affected by the F-permit.
Darlene Akeman, representing AMVETS, said the group wants to use proceeds from the event to support the
Army and Air Force ROTC units at Bowling Green State University, the community and veterans. The post is
headquartered at 1045 N. Main St. and would be using a portion of the parking lot there for its event,
which will be open to the public. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
