Two University of Dayton students will be teaching English in foreign countries on Fulbright
scholarships.
Clare Hubbard, a senior international studies major from Grosse Pointe, Mich., received one of 90
Fulbright awards to teach in South Korea during the 2011-12 school year. Her assignment will be for
early education in a lesser-developed area in Korea.
"After studying in Korea the fall of my junior year, I fell in love with the country and knew I
wanted to go back. The Fulbright is a great way to pursue my interests in Korean studies and learn more
about the language and culture while promoting Korea-U.S. relations."
Chris Lemon, a senior from Bowling Green, majoring in foreign language education and Spanish, received
one of 10 Fulbright awards to teach in Mexico during the 2011-12 school year. His assignment will be at
a university or teacher training college.
"This is a great honor. I am excited to push my language skills to the next level and begin my
teaching career in the largest, most populous majority Spanish-speaking country in the world,"
Lemon said. "Dr. Isabel Espinoza, my advisor, greatly influenced my decision and I am very grateful
for her guidance."
The Fulbright program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, is the largest U.S. international
exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars and professionals to undertake
international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching and teaching in elementary and
secondary schools worldwide.
