PEMBERVILLE – Three Boy Scouts from troop 344 in the village were honored at an Eagle Scout ceremony last
month.
Andrew Venier, Keith Brandt and Jared Haas were recognized for their service projects.
Andrew, son of Dan and Cheryl Venier, of Pemberville, completed his required Eagle Project last summer.
His project consisted of collecting donations and purchasing lumber and gardening tools.
With the help of fellow scouts and adults, he constructed a 24 feet by 12 feet by 8 feet shaded pergola
along with three 10 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet wheelchair accessible garden boxes for Otterbein Portage
Valley located in Pemberville.
Andrew is currently enrolled at Mercy College of Northwest Ohio, in the bachelor of science in nursing
degree program. After receiving his degree, his plans are to further his education to become a certified
nurse anesthetist.
Keith Brandt, son of Ken and Kathy Brandt, Pemberville, did his Eagle Scout project last fall. He
stripped, primed and hand-painted the manger scene for Bethlehem Lutheran Church in the village, with
the help of his fellow scouts, girlfriend and family.
He rebuilt the manger stable and added a large camel and standing sheep to the scene.
Keith is attending Penta Career Center studying public safety/criminal justice. He wants to join the ROTC
and continue his education in homeland security.
Jared Haas, son of Jamie and Shonna Haas, Pemberville, also completed his Eagle Project this past fall.
Jared designed a basalt monument honoring Civil War veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, Elihu Harlem
Mason.
Mason was also a member of village council and a resident of Pemberville. With the help of Jared’s scout
troop and other volunteers, he landscaped an area around the monument and cleaned up and replanted
gardens in the Elihu H. Mason park across from the Pemberville Town Hall.
In October a dedication ceremony was held to present the monument to the town.
Jared is a sophomore at Eastwood High School. Both of Jared’s older brothers, Josh and Jeremiah, are also
Eagle Scouts.
Keith is also the third of three brothers to attain Eagle Scout in his family. Timothy and Steven are
Keith’s older brothers.
All three boys belong to Boy Scout Troop 344 from Pemberville. Matt Meyer and Terry McKibben are their
scoutmasters.
They all received their Eagle Scout awards in 2010, which was the 100th anniversary of scouting.
