Powers qualifies for nationals
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Caroline Powers, a Bowling Green High School graduate and member of the Michigan
State women’s golf team, has qualified for the NCAA Division I championships.
Powers tied for sixth and then won in a playoff over Florida State’s Maria Salinas to earn one of two
individual berths to nationals from the NCAA East Regional at the LPGA International Legends Course on
May 7.
Powers finished with a 54-hole total of 217 (71-69-77), a school record for the NCAA regional.
The NCAA championships are Wednesday through Saturday at Texas A&M University.
Falcon baseball loses
Bowling Green’s baseball team dropped to 18-28 overall and 10-13 in the Mid-American Conference with an
8-0 loss to Kent State on Saturday. The BG-Kent State game scheduled for Sunday was cancelled due to
rain. The Golden Flashes are 36-13, 19-4.
Kent out-hit BG, 17-5 on Saturday, building a 6-0 lead through three innings. Five different players had
a single each for BG.
