Prep Roundup: Schorsch, Hoops earn district tennis title (05-16-11)

Perrysburg’s Jeffrey Schorsch and David Hoops teamed up to defeat fellow Yellow Jackets Nate Mowery and
Brad Merillat, 6-1, 6-1 in the finals of the Division I boys tennis sectional in Toledo on Saturday.
Both of Perrysburg’s doubles teams advanced to the district tournament at Bowling Green State University,
which begins on Wednesday.
Also from Perrysburg, freshman Troy Weider advanced at singles, falling to Toledo Central Catholic’s
Dugan Delp, 6-4, 6-1 in the finals.
The top four singles and doubles placers advanced to districts.
BG’s Bils, Mota advance
In Ada, Bowling Green’s Mitchel Bils was second and teammate Mike Mota was third to advance from the
Division I sectional at Ohio Northern University.
Bils lost to Findlay’s Lucas Schaible in the finals, 7-6 (3), 6-0.
Mota defeated Wapakoneta’s Joey Jose, 6-0, 7-5, to win the third-place match.
Both Bils and Mota advanced to the BGSU district starting on Wednesday.
GIRLS TRACK
Northwood 2nd at TAAC finals
In Northwood, the Ranger girls finished second out of seven teams Friday at the Toledo Area Athletic
Conference track championships at Northwood High School.
The Rangers finished with 87 points. Toledo Christian won the team title with 202.5 points.
Northwood’s Kayla Kurth won individual TAAC title in the 100 (12.9) and 200 (27.0).
Northwood’s 800 relay team of Jessica Tonti, Nikki Davenport, Jessica Grindle and Kurth was first in a
time of 1:52.9.
Olivia Carbe set a school record in the 1,600 with a time of 5:54.1 for third place.
Lakota 7th, NB 8th at MAL meet
In Kansas, Lakota was seventh with 40.5 points and North Baltimore was eighth with 40 points at the
Midland Athletic League championships at Lakota High School Saturday.
Seneca East took home the team title with 152.5 points.
NB’s Amanda Hotaling was the lone athlete from the county to win an event, winning the pole vault title
with a meet record height of 12-0.
BOYS TRACK
Lakota 9th, NB 11th at MAL meet
In Kansas, Lakota was ninth with 18 points and North Baltimore was 11th with 7.5 points at the MAL
championship at Lakota.
Seneca East won the team title with 137 points.
Northwood seventh in TAAC meet
In Northwood, the Rangers finished with 17 points to take seventh at the TAAC championships. Toledo
Christian won the title with 187 points.
SOFTBALL
Perrysburg 8, Southview 2
In Sylvania, the Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the fifth en route to the Northern Lakes League win on
Friday. Perrysburg is 19-6 overall and 8-4 in the NLL.
Leading hitters for Perrysburg were: Ally Gryczewski, 2for-4, two runs batted in, two runs scored; and
Felicia Eisenbrandt, 2-for-4, two runs.
Lindsay Rich pitched all seven innings for the win, recording nine strikeouts.
Junior high results
BOYS TRACK
Eastwood won the Suburban Lakes League junior high championship at Genoa, finishing with 164 points.
Otsego was second at 115.5 points, Lake was fourth at 92.5, and Elmwood was fifth with 43.5 points.
Individual winners for Eastwood were: Devin Snowden, 110 hurdles, 16.4; 200 hurdles, 26.3; and high jump,
5-8; Brennen Seifert, 100, 12.4; 200, 24.5; and long jump, 17-10 1/2; and Abram Reyes, pole vault, 10-0.

Brandon Avers won the 1,600 (4:50.1) and 800 (2:10.3).
Elmwood’s Austin Jasso won the 400 in a time of 57.6.
Otsego’s 400 relay team of Donald Hardison, Darius Ray, Robby Lutz and Tent Hartley was first in a time
of 49.9. The Knights’ 800 relay team of Lutz, Jordy Ghesquire, Avers and Ray won in a time of 1:47.5.
Otsego’s 1,600 relay team of Hartley, Derek Morgan, Ray and Joshua Horseman won in a time of 4:01.8.
GIRLS TRACK
Eastwood won the SLL title with 164 points. Otsego was second with 115.5 points, Lake was fourth at 92.5,
and Elmwood was fifth at 43.5.
Individual winners for Eastwood were: Kortni Montag, 400, 1:03.6; Alysa Rice, 200 hurdles, 33.5; Meagan
Kaminski, 800, 2:38.1; and Aubry Peters, discus, 89-3.
Lake’s Katie Swartz won the 100 in a time of 17.7.
Individual winners for Elmwood were: Liz Garner, 100, 13.8; and long jump, 13-11; and Samantha Ervin,
shot put, 30-5.
Otsego’s Abby Hesselschwardt won the high jump with a distance of 4-8.
Eastwood’s 1,600 relay team of Jenna Selhorst, Alyssa Decker, Montag and Kaminski won in a time of
4:30.9.
