Rough Riders
The Rough Riders 4-H Club met May 7 at First United Methodist Church.
Sibly Saunders, president, started the meeting by reminding the new member to turn in the gate fee for
taking a horse to fair. Then she announced the candy box sale was a success. They will continue to sell
candy for the Memorial Day show that is coming up. Members need to remember to make sure they do their
four hours of volunteer work, and the Memorial Day show is a great opportunity to get that done. Also,
members who are taking horses to fair are reminded to turn in their horse ID forms by June 1 at the
Extension office.
The club will be holding a pony ride at Sharon’s barn on June 5. It will take place from 2 to 4 p.m.
Members are encouraged to volunteer, and bring a horse. On May 21, there will be a preparation meeting
for the Memorial Day horse show. Members should be attending to make sure everything is in order.
The next meeting will be May 21 at Grassy Creek Farm.
4-H-I-O Club
The 4-H-I-O Club met May 1 as members planted and weeded Bethlehem’s garden. Those attending also planted
Mother’s Day flowers and fingerpainted the vases. Demonstration were by Hannah Owens and David Deniston
on how to prevent fruits from browning. Since they planted they ate dirt pudding, complete with gummy
worms.
At the meeting there was discussion regarding making Walk Across Wood County a competition, complete with
prizes. They also discussed if there should be a committee for prizes for Walk Across Wood County and
community service.
President Hannah Stange showed how to properly fold a flag.
The next meeting is Sunday.
Live and Learn
Live and Learn 4-H Club met at the Schmitz Home on May 7. Members divided into three break-out
committees, snack, fair booth, and service committees.
The club decided who brings the snacks and discussed how to decorate the fair booth and how the members
are going to raise funds for a battered women’s shelter.
The next meeting is June 15 at the Henry Ford Museum. Members will be learning and checking up on
projects.
