DEFIANCE – Former Toledo radio host and area restauranteur Andrew Z pleaded not guilty to tax evasion
charges in Defiance Municipal Court Friday morning.
According to the court, Andrew Zepeda, Perrysburg, made the plea at a show cause hearing for failing to
appear for an arraignment on April 8. He is facing criminal charges of failure to permit tax
commissioners to examine books, records and papers to determine payroll, and failure to withhold or pay
tax from employees.
The charges, filed March 14, relate to a restaurant Zepeda formerly operated in the 1400 block of
Baltimore Street in the city called Andrew Z’s Mex-Italiana, which reportedly closed after two months of
operation.
Zepeda was arrested Wednesday in Perrysburg by police on a warrant from the court after he had failed to
appear for the arraignment.
His bond was continued, and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for May 10 at 9:30 a.m.
Zepeda pleaded guilty in February to charges of theft, failure to remit sales tax and complicity to
breaking and entering in Wood County Common Pleas Court in relation to a break-in at the now-closed
Andrew Z’s Sportz Pizzeria in Levis Commons. He was granted an intervention in lieu of conviction.
