Students have positive start in school

The Bowling Green Exchange Club again is recognizing area youth for the good things they’ve accomplished
this past year.
The Exchange Club’s Positive Start program asks teachers to honor students who have done something
positive. Students must live in the Bowling Green School District and be in grades 7 or 8.
A luncheon will be held Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club to honor all 99 students. The guest speaker at
the luncheon will be Kevin Basch, president of the Undergraduate Student Senate at Bowling Green State
University.
This is the last of four installments, and students are listed alphabetically.
Keely Richards is a hardworking, kind, and fun-loving young lady. She is always smiling and is kind to
all of her peers and teachers. She can work with anyone, pays attention in class, and participates in
class often.
Cristian Rosales is a very hard worker who contributes both in and out of the classroom. His teachers say
he has been a very bright spot for Team Victory this year. Cristian is also very supportive of all
athletic teams at the middle school.
Lauren Rosendale participates in cross country, basketball, and EZ Plus. She also helps around the house
and works with her horse with which she has won second place in speed and control, sixth in poles, and
ninth in cones and barrels.
Elijah Richardson maintains excellent grades while also positively participating in football and
basketball. He is also in the Builders Club, where he does various kinds of volunteer work, and was
named "Good Citizen" by his academic team. Through it all, Elijah maintains a positive
attitude and a winning smile.
Nathan Sarver came to Bowling Green at the beginning of the school year from Cincinnati. He is
enthusiastic, shows a desire to learn new things, and is willing to try new things. Nathan plays bass
clarinet in the band.
Ben Sayer is very active in school and in the community. He is in Boy Scouts and participates in cross
country, soccer and track. He is both an excellent student and athlete. Ben is both very helpful to, and
respectful of, other students.
Nicholas Shinabery is a very hard working and polite student. He is cooperative and gets along well with
both his fellow students and with his teachers. He is a very valuable member of Team Victory.
Jaryn Shumaker manages the seventh grade volleyball team, volunteers at the library and concession
stands, and is active in 4-H. She gets straight "A’s," has received ice skating medals, and
has been recognized with the Presidential Achievement Award.
Katy Slaughterbeck is a polite young lady who strives to do her best. She is active in Girl Scouts,
studies martial arts, and is in honors classes. She is a secretary for the Builders Club, where she
helps organize volunteer services. She has volunteered with the parks department.
Joshua Slembarski is active in EZ Plus, chores at home, Upward basketball, volleyball, softball, and
football. He volunteers with Life Group, Safety Patrol, and Clean BG. He received the Pat McGinnis
Character Award.
Brandi Smith is a member of Team Eagle at the middle school. She has worked very hard in school, stays
positive, and makes good choices.
Melissa Snyder is very creative, responsible, friendly, and self-motivated – she pushes herself to higher
levels. Her positive attitude, ready smile, unique spirit help to make her a valuable asset to her
classes. She loves to read and wants to be an English teacher in the future.
Steven Speck, and eighth-grader at Bowling Green Christian Academy, demonstrates a strong sense of
diligence in his efforts, as well as outstanding and faithful work in his classes.
Emily Standinger is active in band, quiz bowl, and EZ Plus. She volunteers at Awana – both in church and
in the teen center. She won the Timothy Award at Awana. She has been selected as a Student of the Month
at the middle school.
Hope Teggart is active in basketball, the Valentis Athletica soccer club, and in Relay for Life. She
volunteers with younger children at her church. Hope is an excellent and hard-working student.
Kati Tracy is a very considerate, reliable, and responsible young lady. She is willing to spend extra
time and to go the extra mile in order to do her best. She loves to read and works well with everyone.

Alex Utz in involved in student council, and was voted most-improved vocalist in sixth grade choir. He
has received straight "A"s for the past year and a half. Alex was selected a Student of the
Month in November.
Maddy Utz is involved with EZ Plus and her church, and she plays piano, studies dance, and helps at home
quite a bit. She has won first place in gymnastics, and several dance awards.
Maggie Venis is a member of the volleyball team, where she was named Player of the Year. She participates
in dance and band, and plans on running track in the spring. She was in the "Nutcracker"
performance and received the Marilyn Hainer Award.
Meghan Vestal is a hard worker and an excellent student. She volunteers at the humane society,
participates in 4-H, is in the band, and is an active member of the Girl Scouts.
Sandra Vestal is a kind and polite student. She works hard in her classes and is always willing to
participate in class projects and discussions.
April Warner works very hard, is kind and pleasant to her fellow students and to her teachers. She is
involved with Girl Scouts, 4-H, and the snack-n-yak book club at school.
Rowan Wicks is a strong self-advocate who displays an excellent balance of self-confidence and humility.
She strikes a rare balance of being both assertive and reserved while working with her fellow students.

Masarat Zafer volunteers at the public library and works very hard to achieve good grades in school. She
is a positive role-model for the other students in her classes.
