Annual Alzheimer’s conference slated April 28 in Perrysburg

PERRYSBURG – The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter will host its 2011 Annual Conference,
"From the Lab to the Living Room" on April 28, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn
French Quarter, 10630 Fremont Pike.
The conference will feature information on the latest Alzheimer’s research and caregiving strategies.
Keynote speaker will be Bruce Lamb, Ph.D., researcher with the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research
Institute. Dr. Lamb’s research has resulted in the development of genetic models of Alzheimer’s disease
by introducing difference human genes into mice. Lamb also spearheaded the "Alzheimer’s
Breakthrough Ride," a cross-country relay bike ride by Alzheimer’s researchers. Riders brought over
110,000 petitions to Capitol Hill last year to urge the federal government to make Alzheimer’s a
national priority.
Other speakers include Bruno Giordani, Ph.D., on the research basis for brain fitness training; Barbara
Kopp Miller, Ph.D., who will discuss current research strategies proven to support the grieving process;
and Bonnie Kantor-Burman, director of the Ohio Office on Aging, who will explain how current legislation
and the budget may impact service delivery.
Sponsors include Foundation Park Alzheimer Care Center and Kingston HealthCare. Continuing professional
education credit is available for nurses and social workers.
