Lake Twp. getting replacement police vehicles

MILLBURY – Five new police vehicles will soon be on the road in Lake Township.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the trustees accepted a $24,926 vehicle grant through the Ohio Criminal Justice
Services. It will pay for a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.
Trustee Ron Sims said almost every law enforcement agency in Ohio applied for this grant, but Lake
Township was the only one to receive it.
Seven of the township’s police vehicles were totalled in a June 5 tornado.
Last month, the trustees approved purchasing four replacement 2008 Chevy Tahoes through MUS Surplus
Store, East Lansing, Mich., for the police department. Insurance will cover the $51,600 cost. The Tahoes
could be on the road next week.
The Interceptor is being purchased from Statewide Ford, Van Wert, for $24,866. It will be loaded with
emergency response equipment.
The new vehicles will replace four loaner cars from the Ohio Highway Patrol, and other cars that have
over 100,000 miles on them, Sims said.
Also at the meeting, the trustees:
¥ Heard members of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will visit the Hanley Road crossing near
Cummings Road March 9 to evaluate if it needs lights and gates.
¥ Voted to purchase 120 tons of salt from Cargill Salt Co., North Olmsted, for $55.75 per ton delivered,
for a total of $6,690.
¥ Accepted a $1,243 donation for the fire department from Dan and Shirley Walters. Their son, Todd, is
the fire chief. This is the second year the couple has made a donation to the department.
¥ Heard Sondra Klavinger, Gene Gilsdorf and Ron Hanely are also participating in the tornado oral history
project. Township residents are invited to share their stories with those three or Trustee Richard
Welling.
¥ Heard from Millbury Councilman Clarence Wilburn that the village’s trash collection is moving to
Mondays. That means refuse in the township, Walbridge and Millbury will all be collected on the same
day.
