PERRYSBURG — The community is invited to participate in an open house on
Wednesday at the WSOS Perrysburg Early Childhood Center. It is located
in St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 871 E. Boundary St.
Then on Thursday, the preschoolers at the WSOS Bradner center are also
inviting the community to visit so that they can see a three-star rated
preschool in operation. This center, at 451 Caldwell Road, will host the
public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The open house is to celebrate the three- and two-star designations the
centers recently earned from the Ohio Department of Job and Family
Services (DJFS), Bureau of Child Care and Development. The three-star
designation is the highest one awarded in Ohio, indicating the preschool
program at the center is one of the best in the state while the
two-star indicates a quality preschool as well.
Parents and community residents are invited to stop at the Perrysburg
center any time between 4-6 p.m. Activities have been planned to include
both adults and preschoolers.
The Early Childhood Center has operated in Perrysburg for more than 40
years. It includes funding from Head Start and state programs for early
childhood learning. The learning is based on a comprehensive early
childhood and family program complemented by nutrition and health
services for the child, and social services for the whole family.
When families enroll their children at the center, they can place them
in one of two options — half-day classes and/or home visitation
services. Families can also benefit by having access to a variety of
community resources, diverse parent education programs, and other social
services that can assist the family to become self-sufficient.
Eligible families are those whose total annual income does not exceed
100 percent of the federal poverty guidelines for Early Head Start/Head
Start and 200 percent for public school preschool. Children with special
needs are also eligible for these services.
