PERRYSBURG – Andrea Alt’s and Kaitlyn Llewellyn’s hard work has paid off.
After four years of success in high school, the Perrysburg seniors have both signed national letters of
intent to run track at Division I schools.
Alt will run at Bowling Green State University, while Llewellyn will run at Lipscomb University in
Nashville, Tenn.
Llewellyn and Alt were two of eight Perrysburg athletes to sign letters to Division I or Division II
colleges at a reception held in the high school gymnasium on Thursday.
"It’s really exciting to make it official. I’ve always wanted to run in college and I’m really
excited about the program I’m going into," Llewellyn said. "It’s fun to sign today with all
these other people from my school."
"It’s always been my goal," Alt said. "Ever since I was younger I wanted to run at a
Division I school, so I’m really thankful that I have an opportunity."
Both were four-year letter winners in cross country and track, and their list of accomplishments is quite
lengthy.
Alt, who also considered running at Miami (Ohio), was a three-time qualifier for the state cross country
meet, including a 27th-place finish as a senior. She was a four-time regional qualifier in both cross
country and track, and placed sixth in the 3,200 at the 2010 state indoor championships.
"It was the coaches and the people around me who have been pushing me and telling me to keep on
going through positive reinforcement," said Alt of what got her to this point. "And then my
own personal motivation and how I work to keep on going and reach my goals."
Llewellyn, the school record-holder in the 1,600 and 3,200, was an All-Ohio performer twice in her career
and qualified twice for the state cross country meet. She was fifth in the 1,600 at the 2010 state
indoor championships and also boasts individual Northern Lakes League and district titles.
"I think just the support of my coaches and my parents. They’ve helped push me in the hard times. I
just love running and I love the sport," said Llewellyn, who also considered Ohio State, Indiana,
and Iowa State. "I just want to be the best athlete that I can be … (Lipscomb) is a really unique
school. It’s a Christian environment. I like the program and everything about it."
Girls co-head track coach Kevin English, who spoke on behalf of fellow co-head coach Steve Ricard,
believes Alt’s and Llewellyn’s impact will be felt for a long time.
"I think that’s one of their best testaments, is they have served as really good role models over
the years," English said. "The younger athletes that are coming into the program have seen
that and taken to it. They’ve really established the way things should be around here."
