A Bowling Green man, reportedly unaware of an approaching train because he was listening to music on
headphones, was struck by the train Thursday afternoon.
The Bowling Green Police Division is investigating the incident involving a 21-year-old male pedestrian,
who was walking westbound in the vicinity of the CSX Railroad tracks and Reed Street Thursday around
3:54 p.m.
A southbound freight train struck the pedestrian as he crossed the tracks. He was reportedly listening to
music on a portable electronic device.
The pedestrian, who listed a North Enterprise address, suffered incapacitating, but apparently not
life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene for medical treatment by the Bowling Green
Fire Division. He was later taken by Life Flight to a hospital in Toledo.
Lt. Ken Fortney of the Bowling Green Police Division did not provide the name of the pedestrian this
morning because of uncertainty as to whether his family has been identified. He said that three
witnesses advised that the man was walking toward the railroad tracks as the train approached, and that
the train whistle did blow, but did not get his attention. He then walked onto the tracks and was
struck.
Fortney said that because he was attempting to cross at an area without a designated railroad crossing,
the man may face trespassing charges.
