Moosehead Grille wins tournament

Moosehead Grille won the annual Dean Moosman Memorial tournament on Sunday at Al-Mar Lanes.
The team recorded the first 3,000 total in the history of the event, shooting 3011. It won the $1,000
first-place prize. Steve Jakubowski led the team with games of 223 and 221 for a 615. Aaron Hawkins
closed with a 256 effort for 613. JoJo Ramsey added 216 for 611. The recently-crowned Ohio Queens
champion, Jodi Woessner, had games of 220 and 204 for 594; with Gary Quaintance completing the scoring
with a 200 and 574.
The team earned the honor to choose the recipient of a $500 scholarship for a youth bowler.
Two-time defending champions, Loma Linda’s was second at 2,873. Brady Woessner was high on the team and
in the tournament with games of 241 and 246 in his 669 series. Kevin Onweller added a high of 210 in his
612 series. The team earned $500 and will award a $300 scholarship.
Gerdeman Insurance finished third at 2,824. Mike Hoffman led the team with 214 and 593. Brandon Welever
added a 245 game; with Earon Vollmar rolling a 232. The team shared in $250 and will award a $200
scholarship through the event.
Tour challenge: At Varsity Lanes, the special Tour Challenge returned with Joe Kominek winning the first
event. Qualifying fourth with a 698 series and 707 handicap total. He marched through the stepladder
finals defeating, in order, Brent Norris 270-194; John Ferrera, 282-219; and top qualifier Ken North,
248-189.
Kominek won $80 and earned six points in the tour series. North claimed $60 and four points; Ferrera $30
and three points; while Norris took home $20 and earned two points.
USBC awards: Josh Swiecicki came within a pin of perfection last Wednesday in the American League at
Al-Mar Lanes. His 299 effort earned him a United States Bowling Congress 11-in-a-row award.
Youth of the Week: Youth bowlers who bowled the most pins over their average last week, with pins over,
were:
Varsity: Bantam/Prep, Lukas Wright, 50; Riley Kepling, 36; Major/Junior, Jacob Stephens, 76; Kat
Przybylski, 63.
Al-Mar: Bantam/Prep, Sofia Calderon, 456; Justin Horvath, 36; Major/Junior, Jordan Franks, 74; Angelina
Flores, 53.
Surviving the game: Ron Foster of the Friday Mixed league was one of three bowlers eliminated in Al-Mar’s
"Surviving the Game." He quit bowling in the league. The other two bowlers eliminated with
pins under average were: Dick Lambert, Elks, 79; Roy Ducat, Randy Miller league, 66.
