Bowling Green’s still struggling to score goals.
The Falcons are in a three-way tie for next-to-last nationally in goals scored, averaging just 2.0 goals
per game.
BG’s scored two or fewer goals in 17 of its 26 games, including 10 games with one goal and two games with
no goals. It has scored one goal in each of its last four games.
"One goal every game isn’t good enough," BG coach Chris Bergeron said. "The more pucks and
people you put to the opposing team’s net, the better chances you’re going to score. We need, obviously,
to score more goals which means execute better around their net."
The Falcon power play ranks 57th nationally among the 58 teams at 9.7 percent, scoring just 12 goals in
124 attempts.
NEXT: The Falcons, 7-17-2 overall and 2-14-2-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, host Lake
Superior (6-11-7, 4-8-6-4) tonight and Saturday at 7:05.
The Lakers are ninth in the league with 22 points, five behind Alaska. LS has played two fewer games than
Alaska.
UNDERRATED: Lake Superior senior captain Rick Schofield is one of the CCHA’s most underrated players.
The 6-foot-2, 198-pounder is a power forward with pro potential. He has 10 goals and 11 assists in 24
games
"He’s really developed from his freshmen year to this year, Bergeron said. "He’s a really good
player. He’s a handful for anybody. I like everything about him."
TOP ROOKIE: Laker freshman Kevin Kapalka has played well in goal, posting a 2.45 goals-against average
and a .918 save percentage in 17 games.
He stopped 68-of-70 shots in the Lakers’ two 2-1 shootout wins against BG Dec. 3-4.
STATS: The Lakers are seventh in the league in scoring (2.33 gpg) and ninth in power-play conversions
(14.1 percent, 14-of-99). ` also last in goals allowed (3.17 per game) and penalty-killing (76.8
percent, 63-of-82).
Despite being a big and strong team that plays a physical game, the Lakers are the CCHA’s least-penalized
team (11.6 minutes per game).
