Losing taking toll on BG hockey

Losing is taking its toll on Bowling Green’s hockey team.
BG is 7-15-2 overall and 2-12-2-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, entering this weekend’s
series at 12th-ranked Miami (11-8-3, 6-8-2-1). The Falcons are 0-7-2 in their last nine league games.

"We’re fighting frustration," BG coach Chris Bergeron said. "We’re fighting lack of
confidence. We’re fighting finger pointing and letting all those things take away from us trying to
improve on a daily basis.
"The guys are looking at me and the coaching staff on how to do that. We’re going to do the best we
can leading the way, that is dealing with adversity like mature people are supposed to, deal with it
head on and focus on the things you can control, not the things you can’t control."
The Falcons have held a one-goal lead or been tied in the third period of seven of their last eight games
but they’re only 1-4-2 in that span.
"Our practices have been good," Bergeron said. "They’ve been intense. They’ve been
focused. When it gets down to crunch time, we are really struggling."
PK: BG’s penalty-killing has been much improved of late. It has allowed just four goals in its last 52
short-handed situations over the last 11 games.
BG recently installed a more aggressive penalty-kill, resulting in more pressure on the opponents in all
three zones. The system reduces the amount of time and space opponents have to make plays.
PP: On the other hand, the Falcon power play hasn’t scored in the last four games and has just 12 goals
all season.
HOBEY: Miami senior forward Carter Camper is one of the favorites to win the Hobey Baker Award, presented
annually to the nation’s most outstanding player. The 5-foot-9, 173-pounder leads the league with 38
points, including a league-best 25 assists.
The Rocky River native plays on one of the country’s best lines as classmates Andy Miele and Pat Cannone
have combined for 19 goals and 36 assists.
GROVER: BG sophomore defenseman Max Grover is questionable for the series, the result of tendonitis in
his hand and wrist. He didn’t play against Ferris State last weekend.
TV: Both BG-Miami games will be televised by the Ohio News Network.
