Falcons get ready to face Boise State with chip on their shoulder

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. — After two tough road losses, Bowling Green returns to Perry Stadium to face No. 8
Boise State this Saturday.
And the Falcons are coming in with an attitude that they have something to prove.
“I think we have a chip on our shoulder to tell you the truth,” BG senior quarterback Tyler Sheehan said
shortly after BG’s 17-10 loss to Marshall last Saturday. “A lot of guys are down right now … But right
now I think we’re going to focus on what we need to do to get better.”
“We definitely want to get a win real bad, real bad,” said BG senior wide receiver Freddie Barnes. “I
will say we’re very desperate to get a win. Everybody has got to go back to win and do everything we’re
supposed to do, making the right decisions as far as watching enough film, preparing properly, going
back to square one.”
SHEEHAN: Sheehan finished 43-of-62 passing for 383 yards against Marshall, to set career records for both
attempts and completions.
The previous marks were 60 attempts (by Omar Jacobs against Toledo in 2004) and 38 completions (by Josh
Harris against Northwestern in 2003).
The 383 yards were the second-most in Sheehan’s career.
“We played coverage. We blitzed them. We mixed in our coverages. We told them going into the game,
‘They’re going to get theirs.’ That’s a good offense, but at some point it’s going to be third down and
we have to get them off the field (Bowling Green converted 11 of 21 third downs),” Marshall head coach
Mark Snyder said.
Sheehan, who also had nine carries on the day, finished the game with 71 plays, one shy of Jacobs’ record
of 72 plays versus Toledo in 2004.
Sheehan moved to second in school history in pass attempts (1,079), fourth in touchdown passes (47),
third in total plays (1,304) and third in passing yards (6,994).
BARNES: Barnes’ 17 receptions broke his own school record of 15 set in the season opener against Troy. He
had 109 receiving yards against the Herd.
Barnes said Marshall showed a couple of different defensive looks against him during the game.
“It was a little weird … It was tough to get open and that in turn allowed their defensive line to get
a lot of pressure on Tyler. They kind of had our offense off-balance a little bit,” Barnes said. “They
took away a lot of timing (routes) and (they) were keeping us from getting downfield,” he continued. “It
was tough.”
Barnes now has 42 receptions in three games to lead the nation. He had only 40 receptions in nine games
last season.
For his career, Barnes has 184 career receptions, fourth-best in school history.
OTHERS: Also for BG, Adrian Hodges finished with nine receptions for 74 yards, both career bests; Ray
Hutson added six catches for 53 yards, both career bests; and Chris Wight had five receptions for a
career-high 104 yards, including a 50-yard TD catch.
WILLIAMS: With four kickoff returns for 75 yards, Roger Williams now owns the all-time school record for
career kickoff returns (68) and kickoff return yards (1,487).
MORGAN: True freshman Keith Morgan started in place of the suspended P.J. Mahone at safety and got his
first career interception and was credited with nine tackles.
“I don’t think there was any letdown,” BG senior linebacker Cody Basler said about Morgan’s play. “He
stepped up and I’m proud of him. We just have to back him up in the front spots.”
