Walk to ‘Break the Silence’ on ovarian cancer Sept. 19

The Northwest Ohio-Southeast Michigan Chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition NOCC will hold its
5th Annual "Break the Silence" walk on Sept. 19 at the University of Toledo Medical Center,
Health Science Campus, 3000 Arlington Ave. The goal is to raise funds, generate awareness and increase
survival rates.
Check in and open registration run from 8 to 9:15 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies and a group
survivor photo at 9:15, with the Walk stepping off at 10 a.m. This year’s 5K Walk is expected to attract
more than 1000 participants, including more than 70 ovarian cancer survivors, their families, friends
and supporters.
All walk proceeds fund education and awareness on both local and national levels.
Today is the deadline for pre-registration, with entrance fees of $25 for adults, $15 for children ages
10-17 and $5 for children ages 5-9. Children under the age of 5 are free. Online registration is

There will also be on-site registration the day of the event, $30 for adults, $20 for children ages 10-17
and $5 for children ages 5-9.
Teams of 10 or more people are also welcome to participate.
All paid participants will receive a free T-shirt. These may be picked up on Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. at The Victory Center, 5532 W. Central Ave., Toledo. At this time, late registration is also
available.
Activities at the walk include a survivor tent, a health fair tent, food, beverages and entertainment.
Gift baskets will be raffled off. Participants are also invited to honor those affected by ovarian
cancer by bringing photos, poetry, articles or other items to be displayed on the whisper wall. This
year, ovarian cancer will claim more than 15,000 lives and more than 20,000 women will be diagnosed with
the disease.
