Five starving horses and one ill dog were seized Wednesday after a search warrant was executed at a home
south of Rudolph.
Laura Pokorny, humane officer with the Wood County Humane Society, reported the "extremely
emaciated" horses were taken from the home of Jeanne Cope, 17222 Bays Road. The horses were taken
to the Healing Barn near Millbury, and are expected to survive.
"They will be mending them back to health," she said. Once healthy, the horses will be put up
for adoption.
According to Pokorny, the horses had been put out to pasture for the past three months, with no feed
supplied by the owner. The dog, which was found to have tumors, was taken to a local veterinarian for
care. The only animals left at the home were barn cats, the humane officer said.
