‘Mikado’ auditions to be held
PEMBERVILLE – The Pemberville Opera House is holding auditions for Gilbert and Sullivan "operetta
The Mikado" Aug. 13 and 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the opera house.
The October performance will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the restoration of the opera house.
"The Mikado" was first presented p.m. May of 1899 just a month after the installation of
electricity.
Dr. F. Eugene Dybdahl, retired director of the Bowling Green State University Opera and Summer Musical
Theater, will be the stage and musical director of the production.
Those auditioning are asked to bring sheet music and be prepared to read. Open to all ages high school
and older.
BG teens get acting honors
Two teen actors from Bowling Green were recently honored by the Ohio Community Theatre Association for
their work in the 3B Productions’ staging of the musical "Grease!"
Layan Elwazani received an Excellence in Acting for her performance as Frenchy during OCTA, Jr.
competition earlier this month in Columbus.
John Wade received a merit in acting award for his performance as Sonny.
In all the production received 12 awards for individual cast members, ensemble and production and was
chosen as the alternate to attend the state OCTA conference as an "Outstanding Example of Youth
Theatre."
The musical was staged in July at the Maumee Indoor Theater. More than a dozen Wood County teens were
involved in the production.
Arboretum exhibiting art
ELMORE – A reception marking the opening of an outdoor sculpture exhibit by Barry Woods Johnston will be
held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Trellis Gallery at Schedel Arboretum and Gardens, 19255 W. Portage
Road.
Johnston is exhibiting 17 bronze sculptures throughout the garden.
The exhibit of landscapes by the Monday Morning Painters will continue through Sunday.
Photographer Dr. Michael Basista will exhibit his work from Aug. 12 through Sept. 14 in the Trellis
Gallery.
Artist Ivan Kende will exhibit large mixed media drawings on canvas and the first pieces in a new
sculpture series.
Admission is charged.
