Powers leads, Shimel seventh at national tourney
ARDMORE, Okla. – Caroline Powers, a Bowling Green High School graduate, continues to lead the 41st annual
Trusted Choice Big I National Championship at Dornick Hills Country Club.
Powers collected four birdies and has a three-stroke lead with a three-round total of 219 after carding a
74 Wednesday. Lizzie Bundie of Clayton, N.C. is second at 222.
"It’s a pretty good feeling just to know that I have a few shots there, but that can all go away in
one hole," Powers said. "I just have to make sure that tomorrow I really play my own game and
focus on just trying to make a birdie on every hole."
Alyssa Shimel, who will be a senior at Eastwood High School this fall, shot 75 for the second straight
day and is now alone in seventh place with a 227 total.
Reimold goes hitless
BALTIMORE – Nolan Reimold, from Bowling Green State University, was 0-for-3 with two walks for the
Baltimore Orioles is a 7-3 loss to Kansas City Wednesday.
It broke a five-game hitting streak for Reimold, who is hitting .287 in his rookie season.
Practice start times set for Eastwood Middle School
LUCKEY – The practice times for Eastwood Middle School athletics have been set. All fall sport athletes
must have a physical turned in to the school before practicing or trying out. Forms are available at
eastwood.k12.oh.us or at the middle school or high school offices. The times are:
¥ Volleyball, eighth practice starts Aug. 10 from 4-6 p.m. The seventh grade practice starts Aug. 10 from
8:30-10:30 a.m. The tryouts are mandatory and will be held in the middle school gym.
¥ Football, seventh and eighth grade practice starts on Aug. 14 from 9-11 a.m. Equipment will be passed
out at that time.
¥ Cross country, seventh and eighth grade practice starts Aug, 10 from 8:30-10 a.m. under the big tree at
the high school.
Eastwood golf meeting set
DOWLING – There is a meeting Saturday at 1 p.m. at Tanglewood Golf Course for all boys planning to join
the Eastwood golf team.
