U.S. 20 accident kills 11-year-old girl

PERRYSBURG – An 11-year-old girl from New Port, Mich., was killed in an accident on U.S. 20 at Glenwood
Road on Friday at 4:19 p.m.
Haley Penix was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Patrol, the victim was a front-seat passenger of a
car driven by Gayle A. Penix, 31, also of New Port. She was driving a 1998 Dodge Neon eastbound on Route
20 when she failed to yield while attempting a left turn northbound onto Glenwood Road.
The Penix vehicle was struck in the passenger side by a 1997 Ford Ranger driven by Amy Spencer, 22, of
Oregon.
The report from the patrol indicates after the initial impact, the Neon spun and struck a Ford Escort
driven by Denise Parsons, of Perrysburg, that was stopped southbound on Glenwood Road.
Debris from the Ranger struck a fourth vehicle driven by Bridgett Williams, also of Perrysburg. Williams
was driving a Chrysler Town and Country.
Two people were transported by Perrysburg Township EMS to area hospitals. Gayle Penix was taken to St.
Vincent Mercy Medical Center; Toledo, while Spencer was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee, both
with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
Also responding to the crash were Perrysburg Township Police and Fire, along with Troy Township Fire and
EMS.
