Schilz bonding with Falcon receivers (08-07-13)

There was some bonding, some sights to see, some pool time, and even some football thrown into the
mix. That’s what happens when five college-age young men go to visit a friend and teammate who just happens
to live in southern California.Five members of the Bowling Green Falcons’ receiving corps – Alex Bayer, Ryan
Burbrink, Chris Gallon, Herve Colby, and Diontre Delk – went to quarterback Matt Schilz’s home in Arcadia,
Calif., which is located less than 15 minutes northwest of downtown Los Angeles, over the summer.Bayer and
Schilz met when they both made their official visit to Bowling Green and have been roommates ever
since.”We’ve been talking about this forever,” Schilz said about Bayer making the trip. ”I wanted to do
it at least once.”At the beginning of the year, I thought it would be a good thing to take the receivers
back (home) and it would be a fun thing.”Bayer said that with he and Schilz beginning their final year, it
was the last chance to make the trip happen.”Fortunately, we were able to bring a couple of other guys out
there,” Bayer said. ‘It was my first time out there. I think it was for the rest of the guys so it was a
fun trip.”It wasn’t anything real serious. It was more relaxation. He has a pool and we were able to go out
and see some of the sights,” Bayer added. The group bonding may prove to be beneficial for the
Falcons.”Knowing them better always helps,” Schilz said. ”Even though you know what they are going to do
for their next move, you get that good chemistry and you build on that everyday you hang out with them.”You
want to have a relationship where you are friends, but you can get on each other.”Among the sights that
were seen was a trip to Hollywood.”I love it, it was great out there. LA was nice,” Burbrink said. ”He
(Schilz) took real good care of us. We were on the diving board, in the hot tub, playing ping pong and doing
some fun stuff.”There was also some time for football, although the number of workouts varies as to who you
ask.Schilz said the group worked out with a private quarterback coach who has helped him in the past.”We
got a lot of work done, which was a good thing,” Schilz said.Bayer and Burbrink said the group worked out a
few times.”We did it two times, but it was for a long period of time,” Burbrink said. ”We were out there
working on foot drills and then we got with Schilz and worked on our routes and our timing … trying to get
ready for the season.”
