At the 2022 Wood County Fair, 951 FFA crop, agricultural engineering, research, horticultural, SAE/FFA photo story boards and agricultural science projects were on display at the Junior Fair Building.

The 2022 FFA Tractor Operator’s Contest was won by Jesse Sundermeier of Eastwood FFA. Carter Foos of Eastwood FFA was second, followed by Gregory Wise of Elmwood FFA, third. Tanner Pennington of Elmwood FFA was fourth and Wyatt Bechstein of Bowling Green FFA was fifth. Eddie Eschedor (BG) and Tommy Curtis (Penta) also participated in the contest.

Meteorologically fall begins Sept. 1 — Thursday — and lasts through end of November.

TOLEDO — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Agriculture announced a $5 million grant program for a new H2Ohio Best Management Practice – the two-stage ditch. A two-stage ditch is a conservation practice that modifies the shape of a drainage ditch to create vegetation benches on each side. The vegetative benches slow water flow and reduce downstream nutrient runoff.

I was in the front lobby of our office building greeting clients as they entered the building. For those unfamiliar as to where the Ohio State University Extension office is located, we are at 639 S. Dunbridge Road. Coming through the lobby entrance not only were our guests but also an unwanted visitor; the Black Field Cricket (Gryllus pennsylvanicus).

While I was attending the Wood County Fair the number one question that I was asked by fairgoers was: Are we going to be invaded again by Fall Armyworms?

The past several months I have mentioned weather conditions of cool, or hot conditions with copious amounts of rainfall. Now, like a switch, the weather has changed from hot with hit-or-miss rainfall.

The Eastwood FFA chapter attended the State FFA Convention on May 5-6 in Columbus, Ohio.

In addition to the light displayed by lightning during thunderstorms, nature exhibits the flashing yellow lights of the lightning bug. This display of lights continues throughout the summer during the evenings.
