Paging through 2022: Leafing through the library’s year

0

It has been an amazing year at the Wood County District Public Library. From our record-setting 2022 Adult Winter Reads program, to over 1,200 children signing up for our Summer Reading Program: Oceans of Possibilities, to our WCDPL Foundation Series hosting bestselling author and Hollywood actor Danny Trejo, we have had so much success and fun throughout 2022.

As this was only my second year working at the library, I can tell you it was a busy one. I always enjoy sharing and seeing the fun we have here at the library. As we start 2023, I’ve been looking back on all of the memories we’ve made and shared with you. A few of my favorites include:

· Adult Winter Reads: Travel Through Pages had patrons exploring far-off destinations through library materials. We had over 1,000 entries into our Winter Reads program for 2022.

· Our annual Novel Night benefit returned to an in-person event in 2022. It was an amazing night filled with good food, fellowship, and lots of library love. We raised over $130,000 in funds to buy more books and library materials.

· It was an amazing year for our Bookmobile and Outreach department. With our Bookmobile stops, visits to local daycares and schools, and delivery of library materials and services to your doorstep, we continue to serve the needs of Wood County.

· Our Summer Reading Program: Oceans of Possibilities had families checking out new books and learning more about our oceans and waterways.

· Early literacy in our community has never been better. We celebrated our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge with a party, and over 50% of Wood County is currently enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

· Our Foundation Series event with bestselling author Danny Trejo was a huge success. We quickly booked up for this event in under 48 hours with over 600 people on the waitlist in under 72 hours.

· We once again had programming for all ages at our Walbridge location. Patrons love and continue to enjoy storytime, Game Day and our ever-popular Walbridge Library Professional Bowling Association.

· Community events, like the Bowling Green Community Holiday Parade and BGSU Campus Fest, were a blast for us this year. These events are much-loved traditions that we look forward to every year.

All of this, from successful programs, to funds raised, to inspiring children with the love of reading and so much more, is because of you. None of the important work we do at the library would be possible without your support. Whether you’ve joined us for a program, checked out materials or made a donation, thank you so much for the library love you show us; this year and every year to come. We are so grateful for you.

We look forward to serving you for another great fun-filled year in 2023.
